Clients:Domains Tab

From WHMCS Documentation

The Domains tab contains details for all of a client's domains, as well as the ability to perform additional actions like registering and renewing domains, modifying WHOIS data, and obtaining EPP codes.

You can access this tab when you view a client's profile at Clients > View/Search Clients.

You can also access this tab by clicking the desired domain's ID in the Domains list in the Summary tab.

Managing a Client's Domain

To view and manage a domain, select it from the Domains menu. After you modify settings, click Save Changes.

When a registrar is selected in Registrar, WHMCS will make a request to that registrar every time the page loads and obtain the current details for the domain. This ensures that the nameservers and WHOIS details in WHMCS are always accurate.

SSL Monitoring

SSL Status Admin Area

The padlock icon in the top-right corner of the tab reflects the SSL status of the domain.

There are four icons that display the SSL information:

Ssl-active-green.png — A green padlock indicates that the selected domain has an active and valid SSL Certificate.

Ssl-inactive-domain.png — A grey padlock with a negative sign is displayed for domains that are not considered active. These are services and domains that are in a Terminated, Expired or Cancelled status.

Ssl-inactive-red.png — A red padlock indicates that the selected domain does not have an active or valid SSL Certificate.

Ssl-unknown.png — A grey padlock with a question mark indicates that the state of SSL for a domain cannot be verified with any certainty.

For more information, see SSL Monitoring.

View Invoices

Prior to WHMCS 8.0, view invoices by clicking the link next to Payment Method.

To view invoices for the currently-selected domain, click View Invoices in the top-right corner of the page.

More

We added this menu in WHMCS 8.0.

Click More to access the following options:

Transfer Ownership

Prior to WHMCS 8.0, this appears as Move Product/Service at the top-right of the page.

Transfer Product Popup

To transfer ownership of a domain to another account:

  1. Click More.
  2. Choose Transfer Ownership.
  3. In the box that appears, enter the Client ID for the new owner. Alternatively, use the box below this to search by name, company, or email address. Click the account's name and Client ID will populate with that ID.
  4. Click Transfer.

For more information about transferring domains, see Domain Transfers.

Invoices cannot be moved between clients. When you transfer ownership of a domain, any invoices will remain under the old owner. We recommend that you check the old owner's Invoices tab for any unpaid invoices for this domain and cancel them. To invoice the new owner for the domain, move the Next Due Date forward or back by one day. The system will generate a new invoice the next time that the cron runs.

Send Message

Prior to WHMCS 8.0, this appeared at the bottom of the page.

To send a message to the account in WHMCS 8.0 and later:

  1. Click More.
  2. Choose Send Message.
  3. Select an email template from Choose Message.
  4. Click Send Message.

To send a message to the account prior to WHMCS 8.0:

  1. Select a message from Send Message at the bottom of the page.
  2. If you selected New Message, compose your new message.
  3. Click Send.

Delete

Prior to WHMCS 8.0, Delete appears as a red link at the bottom of the page.

To delete a domain, click More and then click Delete. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

Deleting a domain from WHMCS will not perform any action at the domain registrar.

Basic Information

Order Information

To view the order for this domain, click View Order next to Order #.

Domain

To select another domain that belongs to this client, choose one from Domain.

Registrar

To change the domain registrar associated with the domain, select one from Registrar.

Some other settings on this page may not display until you select a registrar.

Payment Settings

First Payment Amount

The sum total due for the initial payment for this domain. It includes the domain price and domain addons, less any discounts.

This value is used to generate an invoice when Registration Date is the same as Next Due Date.

Recurring Amount

The sum total that will be invoiced for this domain on renewal. It includes the domain's price and addons, less any discounts.

This value is used to generate an invoice when Registration Date is not the same as Next Due Date.

Auto Recalculate on Save

Prior to WHMCS 8.0, Auto Recalculate on Save was a checkbox.

Click Auto Recalculate on Save to cause WHMCS to recalculate the Recurring Amount using your new settings. Use this, for example, after you change the registration period or promotion code for a domain.

If you don't use Auto Recalculate on Save when you make certain changes, WHMCS will not overwrite the previous settings and calculations for the domain.

Promotion Code

To apply a promotional discount to this domain, select the discount from Promotion Code.

Changing the value will not automatically change the invoiced price. To change the price on the invoice, click Auto Recalculate on Save before clicking Save Changes.

Registration Period

The frequency with which the domain will be invoiced.

For example, if this is set to 1 and the Recurring Amount is 5.00, the client will be invoiced 5.00 once per year.

Changing the value will not automatically change the invoiced price. To change the price on the invoice, click Auto Recalculate on Save before clicking Save Changes.

Registration Date

The date on which the domain was registered.

Expiry Date

The date on which the domain's registration will expire.

Next Due Date

The date on which payment for the next renewal invoice is due. A renewal invoice for the Recurring Amount will be generated in advance of this date, as configured at Configuration () > System Settings > Automation_Settings or, prior to WHMCS 8.0, Setup > Automation Settings.

Payment Method

The payment method to use for invoices for this domain. This lets accounts use a different payment method for each of their registered domains.

If it's configured in the Invoice tab at Configuration () > System Settings > General Settings or, prior to WHMCS 8.0, Setup > General Settings, the client may ultimately pay using a different payment method from the one specified here.

Status

The domain's current state:

  • Pending — Domain is awaiting provisioning.
  • Pending Registration — Order paid but not yet registered.
  • Pending Transfer — Domain transfer currently in progress.
  • Active — Domain is successfully registered and available for management.
  • Grace Period (Expired) — Domain is expired but within the renewal grace period.
  • Redemption Period (Expired) — Domain is expired but within the redemption period.
  • Expired — Domain is expired (no further invoices will be generated).
  • Transferred Away — Domain has been transferred away to another provider (no further invoices will be generated).
  • Fraud — Order was marked as fraud (no further invoices will be generated).

If you want to cancel a domain that isn't associated with a module, change this to Cancelled. This will prevent the generation of any further invoices.

Subscription ID

Certain third-party payment gateways (namely PayPal and 2Checkout) use this field to store the ID number of their recurring subscriptions. When a payment is made by the subscription, WHMCS associates it with this service automatically.

Nameservers

You can specify up to five nameservers on the domain's record. Usually, a minimum of two nameservers are required. If you do not wish to specify a third, forth, or fifth nameserver then leave the field empty.

When this page loads, the current nameservers will be retrieved from your domain registrar and displayed.

WHMCS will pass any changes that you make and save to the selected domain registrar automatically.

Registrar Commands

If the domain is linked to a module via Registrar, Module Commands will appear near the bottom of the page. This allows you to execute any of the commands available in that module. The available commands vary by module, but the most common ones are:

  • Register — Runs the domain registration routine and sets the product status to Active.
  • Transfer — Runs the domain transfer routine and sets the product status to Pending Transfer.
  • Renew — Runs the domain renewal routine for the number of years in Registration Period.
  • Modify Contact Details — Displays a page where you can edit the WHOIS records of the domain. These details are retrieved from your registrar.
  • Get EPP Code — If the domain supports EPP codes, the EPP code from the registrar will display.
  • Request Delete — If your registrar allows domains to be deleted, this deletes the domain.
  • Release Domain — Displays a page into which the new IPS tag can be entered. Use this for .uk domains.

Domain Specific

Allow IDN Domains

Checking this option allows the use of domains that contain any character. If you don't check this, WHMCS will only allow clients to use a-z and 0-9 in domains.

Currently, WHMCS supports IDN for eNom, ResellerClub, OpenSRS, and all LogicBoxes modules.

IDN TLDs are only supported in WHMCS 8.0 and later.

Registrar Lock

Check or uncheck this option and click Save Changes to change the status of the registrar lock on the domain. The registrar lock usually needs to be disabled before modifying the nameservers or WHOIS contact details.

Management Tools

Domain Addons (DNS Management, ID Protection and Email Forwarding) can be enabled or disabled from this page. Checking or unchecking the appropriate checkbox and clicking Save Changes will enable the feature within the client area and adjust the Recurring Amount accordingly.

When you uncheck Disable Auto Renew, WHMCS will invoice the domain automatically for renewal on the Next Due Date. If you check this, the renewal invoice will not be automatically generated and the domain may expire. For more information, see Domain Management.

Additional Domain Fields

Certain domain names require additional information in order to process a registration request. Clients provide this information while ordering. The values are saved to the WHMCS database and displayed in fields below Management Tools.

Changing the values of these fields does not update any record with the domain registrar.

Moving a Domain to another Account

Transfer Domain Popup

To move a domain from one account to another:

  1. Click Move Domain to Another Client at the top-right of the page. A window will appear. (You may need to disable popup blockers to do this.)
  2. Enter the ID of the new owner. If you don't know the client's ID, use Search to find it. Click the client's name and the ID will auto-fill.
  3. Click Transfer.

This process won't change the WHOIS details for the domain. To update them, click Modify Contact Details in Registrar Commands.

Invoices

You can't move invoices between clients. When you move a domain, the invoices for it will remain with the old owner. We recommend that you check the old owner's Invoices tab for unpaid invoices and cancel them.

To move the invoice to the domain's new owner, move Next Due Date forward or back by one day. WHMCS will generate a new invoice when the cron runs.

Admin Notes

Here, staff can enter private notes about the client to display to other staff viewing this service under the Products/Services tab. Notes here are separate from the ones under any other service, domain, or the client's Summary tab.
