Problem
You see the following message in the WHMCS Admin Area:
Invoice immutability is disabled. We have deprecated the ability to edit invoices and we will remove the option to enable invoice mutability in a future release.
You may also see an Invoice Immutability warning at Configuration () > System Health.
Cause
You have configured your system to allow invoice editing (invoice mutability) for non-Draft invoices.
We will remove the configuration option that allows this behavior in a future release.
For more information, see Credit and Debit Notes.
Solution
In WHMCS, you can use credit and debit notes to adjust invoice balances and reissue invoices to correct immutable invoice fields like the invoice date or tax rate. The system automatically creates credit and debit notes for common billing actions like refunds, cancellations, and applying credit.
We strongly recommend updating your business’s workflows to eliminate the need to edit non-Draft invoices. For common scenarios and workflow examples, see Adapting Your Workflow.
