Marketing Emails Automation Opt-In Conversion

From WHMCS Documentation

Available in WHMCS 7.10 and earlier.
This document describes functionality in WHMCS 7.10 and earlier. For WHMCS 8.0 and later, use the improved and full-featured Email Campaigns.

After upgrading to WHMCS 7.5, you can perform a one-time conversion to the new opt-in mailing list subscription management.

In doing so, you are given the choice of either assuming opt-in for all your existing customers that have not explicitly opted out, or to not assume opt-in for any existing customers and require them to explicitly re opt-in.

Performing the Conversion

To perform the conversion, begin by navigating to Clients > Mass Mail.

Until the conversion is performed, you will see a banner displayed as shown below. As this is a one-time conversion process, once the migration has been performed the banner will no longer be displayed.

Click the Click here link to initiate the conversion process.

The conversion process wizard will ask you to make a choice of how your existing customers are treated.

The options are as follows:

  • Do not assume opt-in for any existing customers - Selecting this option will not set any existing customers to opted-in status automatically and will require users to explicitly opt-in to receive marketing emails.
  • Assume opt-in for any existing customers that have not explicitly opted-out - Selecting this option will set any customers who have not opted-out of marketing emails to opted-in by default. This means that any non-unsubscribed users will be considered as implicitly opted-in.
Customers may opt-in to marketing emails at any time via the client area profile page, or via the opt-in links which can be included in emails.

Opt-In/Out Email Links

Two merge fields are made available for use in email messages.

  • {$email_marketing_optin_url}
  • {$email_marketing_optout_url}

You may use these merge fields along with the Mass Mail tool in order to send a bulk mailing asking users to opt-in or opt-out. These can be used in conjunction with the migration to request your users to explicitly opt-in or out.
