PayPal® Unrecognized Currency Errors

Problem

You see the following error in the Gateway Log while using a PayPal® payment gateway module:

Unrecognized Currency

Cause

This error indicates an invalid currency code in Configuration () > System Settings > Currencies. Currency codes must use the ISO-4217 standard format. For example, EUR is valid but EURO is not.

Solution

Make certain that all of the currencies at Configuration () > System Settings > Currencies are using a valid format.

You may need to check for blank spaces at the beginning or end of the currency code.
